A San Pablo father’s death marked the second drowning at Lake Berryessa in six days, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.

Marciallo Perez, 35, was unable to swim back from the shore after helping his son, who survived, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. Perez’s body was recovered about an hour after he went into the water near 3 p.m.
Perez, like 16-year-old victim Demetrio Perriatt on June 27, drowned in the Oak Shores area of the reservoir. Perriatt, a high school baseball star in Fairfield, drowned while retrieving his raft.
Oak Shores has been a particularly deadly area of the popular recreation site. Before Perez’s death, Perriatt was the 11th drowning victim at Lake Berryessa since 2019, KTVU reported, citing data from the sheriff’s office. Perez would be the seventh drowning victim in Oak Shores during that time.
“Reminder, PLEASE wear a life jacket when you’re on a boat or in/near water,” the sheriff’s office Facebook post said.
