The City of Cayce is gearing up to host its annual ‘party in the street’ with the return of Soiree on State. The free event will take place Saturday, Mar. 25th, from 2 to 8 p.m. and will feature local artists, vendors, and live music in the Cayce River Arts District along State Street, from Poplar Street to Railroad Street.
According to officials, the City of Cayce has partnered with the Avenues Neighborhood Association to combine the Cayce Festival of the Arts with Soiree on State. The partnership includes more artists, a free kid’s area with inflatable obstacle courses, face painting and a balloon artist, food vendors, and various musicians.
Cayce Mayor Elise Partin spoke with Tony Clyburn, afternoon host of 93.1 The Lake, about why she decided to bring Soiree on State to the city a few years ago.
“We were trying to revitalize the original heart of our city. Most of the buildings were just shuttered and we couldn’t get anything to happen,” said Partin.
The mayor went on to say she was invited to the Mayor’s Institute for City Design, which is a collaboration of the National Endowment for the Arts, The American Institute of Architects and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
“I came back from the Mayor’s Institute and talked to our staff and I said, ‘Hey, let’s throw a street party,’ and that street party is the Soiree on State,” she said. “It’s actually a really fun event and a fun street party with music and food and drink, but it’s actually a secret economic development engine – it’s got this dual purpose.”
The music lineup includes; the Sam Edwards Jazz Trio, who are scheduled to perform all day in the Art Lot. Cayce’s own Mitchell Lee is the opening act, followed by Prettier than Matt and headliner Tokyo Joe.
Band lineup schedule:
2:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Sam Edwards Jazz Trio in the City’s Art Lot
3:00 pm – Mitchell Lee
4:30 pm – Prettier Than Matt
6:00 – 8:00 pm – Tokyo Joe
Free parking will be located at Brookland-Cayce High School, within walking distance of the Soiree, or guests can take a free golf cart ride to and from the event.
