How the numbers add up in the Maharashtra Assembly

  • In the Maharashtra House of 288, one seat is vacant because of the death of Shiv Sena legislator Ramesh Latke. Two NCP MLAs Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik are currently in jail.

NCP, Sena and Congress saw vote erosion: BJP

Sena crisis on for more than a week: NCP leader

State NCP minister Chhagan Bhujbal said he does not feel that there is a threat to the Maharashtra Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, comprising the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress. “An upheaval was going on in the Shiv Sena for nearly a week”, he said.

There is no clear fix on the number of MLAs who are with Shinde. And from which all parties they are from. Initial reports said the number is 12, including Shinde. Times Now put that number at 22.

The opposition BJP on Monday won all five seats it contested in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections for 10 seats, while Congress candidate and Dalit leader Chandrakant Handore lost.

A large number of police personnel have been deployed outside the hotel. The MLAs are not in touch with the party leadership.

The MLAs, who are seemingly unhappy with the Shiv Sena leadership, arrived in Surat on Monday night and are camping at the Le Meridian Hotel.

This trip to Gujarat comes a day after the Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi faced a setback in the Maharashtra Legislative Council polls.

There is a crisis brewing in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in Maharashtra. Minister Eknath Shinde and some other Shiv Sena MLAs from the state are camping at a hotel in Gujarat’s Surat city, sources said on Tuesday.
