Mother, two kids struck by vehicle in Peabody, Massachusetts, street, police say

A busy Massachusetts North Shore road was shut down Friday afternoon after a crash involving a mother and her two children. Peabody police said two juveniles and their mother were struck by a vehicle as they were crossing the street. Video from Sky 5 showed crime tape surrounding the SUV near the intersection of Lynn and County streets in Peabody.The aerial video showed a street sign near the sidewalk along the road knocked down by the SUV.A witness who works in a nearby barbershop told WCVB that the driver of the SUV approached the intersection and tried to pass a bus on the right.”As she was coming around the bus, a mother and her children were walking across the street to pick up some dry cleaning, “She ended up clipping the two little girls, hitting them,” the witness said.The witness said the mother, who is an emergency room nurse, was taken to a nearby hospital with the children. Police said the children suffered serious injuries.The mother said her 5-year-old suffered scrapes and bruises while doctors were still evaluating her 8-year-old. Police said the driver, Ovidia Lopez-Esteban, of Lynn, was placed into custody at the scene for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.The street was reopened to traffic several hours later.
