The Dallas Mavericks are the only Western Conference team to have just two games under their belt to start the season, but they look to move to 2-1 in a tough matchup at New Orleans on Tuesday. New addition Christian Wood has made an immediate impact for Dallas and has scored 25 points in each of his first two games for the Mavericks. In four starts last season against the Pelicans, he averaged 18 points and 9.3 rebounds, but does he have a higher upside with Dallas and for NBA DFS lineups when he plays them again on Tuesday?
Zion Williamson has been a big part of the optimism around New Orleans to start the year but he is out for Tuesday with a hip injury that he sustained against Utah on Sunday. With Brandon Ingram (concussion) also out, perhaps a player like Jonas Valanciunas or CJ McCollum could emerge in the NBA DFS player pool with the Pelicans in desperate need of more scoring. Before you make your NBA DFS picks for Tuesday, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.

On Monday, he highlighted Spurs swingman Devin Vassell as one of his top NBA DFS picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Vassell scored a team-high 23 points and made 5-of-10 three-point attempts with nine rebounds and seven assists to return 48.75 points on DraftKings and 46.3 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Top NBA DFS picks for Tuesday, October 25
For Tuesday, one of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks is Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, who is listed at $11,100 on DraftKings and $11,200 on FanDuel. Doncic scored 32 points in his last start against Memphis on Saturday, and also finished with 10 assists, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. He opened the season with a 35-point performance against Phoenix last Wednesday.
When Dallas faces New Orleans on Tuesday, Doncic should be poised for a big game after having the last two nights off. On two days of rest last season, Doncic averaged 29.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 8.8 assists while playing 36.7 minutes per game. The Pelicans come into the matchup a little banged up, and that could mean trouble because in four games against New Orleans last season, Doncic averaged 30.8 points and shot 48.9 percent from the field.
Another part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Clippers forward Robert Covington ($4,100 on DraftKings and 4,400 on FanDuel). Covington finished with just three points in his last start on Saturday against Phoenix, but his underlying numbers indicate that he is a high-value bargain player. Covington should also see increased usage on Tuesday with Marcus Morris (personal) and Paul George (illness) out, and Kawhi Leonard logging just 21 minutes per game.
Covington has only averaged 17 minutes per contest this season, but he’s been impactful in his opportunities. While the season is still very young, Covington holds the highest rebound rate of his career (15.9 percent), assist rate (10.7 percent), and his lowest turnover rate (6.8 percent). The Clippers visit Oklahoma City on Tuesday, and in two games last season against the Thunder, Covington had his fifth-highest usage rate versus all opponents (17.5) and finished with an overall plus-minus of plus-12.
