It’s on.
Among the wave of events that are being revived after the COVID-19 pandemic brought community mingling to a halt, Southgate Heritage Days is set to make a comeback.
The event has been a long-standing popular festivity in the community for more than four decades.
It was canceled the past two years due to pandemic precautions, but the family fun days are set for June 16-19 in Market Center Park, 13631 Eureka Road.
The event returns packed with all of the things that made it so popular with visitors — activities for kids, food, live music, a carnival, the parade, arts and crafts, and more.
Julie Goddard, Southgate’s parks and recreation director, said there already has been a good deal of positive feedback from the community since announcing the return of Heritage Days.
“We are super excited and glad that it’s back,” Goddard said. “Me and Laura Walsh, the mayor’s secretary, have been working on this. We started in November and have gone up until now.”
She anticipates Heritage Days will be an even better experience than before.
Activities typically did not start until the second day of the affair, but this year the opening day will be “all about the children.”
Fun characters, such as Batman, and kid raffles will be big parts of the festivities.
Following is a brief rundown of the activities scheduled for each day:
June 16
Heritage Days kicks off with the opening of the carnival from 4 to 11 p.m.
Check out the Kid “O”lympics from 5 to 8 p.m. and the music of After the Fire can be heard during that same time frame.
June 17
The carnival will be up and running from 4 to 11 p.m.
June 18
The wait is over for the Heritage Days parade. It kicks off at 11 a.m.
The Taste of the Town event takes place from noon to 2 p.m.
The carnival starts up at noon and runs until 11 p.m.
June 19
The final day of Heritage Days will see the carnival set up from 1 to 8 p.m.
